DOUGHERTY COUNTY, GA --
In our Facebook Story of the Day, you wanted to know if local officers have guidelines on when they can use stun guns or tasers.

FOX 31 spoke to the Dougherty County Sheriff's Office who said that although rules vary between different departments, they generally follow the same guidelines.
"According to the manufacturer, they give you a rough draft of policy and most departments use that to make their policy," said Captain Ken Faust, the Uniform Division Commander.

Faust says tasers are used when an individual over 80 pounds and less than 60-years-old will not cooperate with an officer's commands and there is a likelihood of violence, whether it be to the person or the official.

A report must be written every time force is used by an officer so that it can be reviewed if challenged.
