Ninth graders at Albany High School graduate as a way to keep motivation up and the dropout rate down

ALBANY, GA --
Albany High School held their second annual ninth grade graduation Sunday afternoon in an attempt to continue decreasing the dropout rate.
The graduation was created last year after 38% of ninth graders did not move on to tenth grade, something Anita Tunstall, the ninth grade lead, says will never happen again.
After only the first year the graduation rate rose from 62% to 78%, a number Tunstall is hoping to beat this year.
Around 90 students participated in last year’s graduation, which requires passing five out of seven classes, but 105 students wore a cap and gown today.
The final percentage of students that passed will be tallied and released tomorrow.
