Across the country Thursday, people bowed the heads and lifted their hearts in honor of the 61st National Day of Prayer.

The Marine Corps Logistics Base was up early celebrating the day locally with their annual Prayer Breakfast.

Ken Bevel retired from the military after 20 years active service.  He returned to the base to be Thursday morning's guest speaker and remind everyone we cannot live without prayer.

“In everything that we do, in everywhere that we go, we need to be praying and asking god to be with us, be with our families, be with this country, be with this community so we can be with each other in unity in that we can praise God together,” said Ken Bevel, associate pastor of Sherwood Baptist Church.

National Day of Prayer is always celebrated the first Thursday in May.  Although it is only one day, Bevel says people should pray at all times.
