ALBANY, GA -- The Kiwanis Club of Dougherty County welcomed Assistant District Attorney Matt Breeden as their speaker during a luncheon Monday afternoon.

Breeden spoke to the crowd at the Hilton Garden Inn about gangs in the community and how to identify them. Each gang can be identified by a set of colors, a designated number or even the tattoos members may have.

Breeden says we have approximately 1,000 located gang members and around 13 active gangs in the area but the District Attorney's Office is doing everything they can to keep the streets safe.

To control this growing problem, the DA's Office is targeting the known gang members and prosecuting them while reaching out to children at risk of getting involved to prevent them from becoming a member. Breeden stressed the importance of community involvement and protecting each other with programs such as neighborhood watches to insure the safety of others.
