ALBANY, GA --

ALBANY – The Darton College Wetherbee Library recently held its 12th annual poetry contest for junior and senior high school students in Southwest Georgia. Nakea Jordan, of Colquitt County High School,won first place in the Senior Division, and Alexcie Barry, of Westover High School, won first place in the Junior Division. More than 175 students entered a poem in this year’s contest.

The first place winner in the Senior Division is awarded a full tuition scholarship for the 2012 fall semester. Below is a list of all the poetry contest winners.

Senior Division

First Place: Nakea Jordan, Colquitt County High School, “For a While”

Second Place: Justin Slocumb, Pelham High School, “Night Fishing”

Third Place: Curtis Loud, Dougherty Comprehensive High School,  “Poetic Confession”

Honorable Mention: Melvin Giddens, Thomasville High School, “My Signature”

Junior Division

First Place: Alexcie Barry, Westover High School, “It”

Second Place: Drew Weathersby, Randolph Southern School, “Grass”

Third Place: Sara Morris, Randolph Southern School, “Pine Tree”
