ALBANY, GA --
Mayor Dorothy Hubbard met with the Dougherty County Court Appointed Special Advocates today to proclaim April 29th as CASA day.

CASA is a non-profit organization that trains community volunteers to join the fight against child abuse and represent a child currently in foster care.

Each volunteer speaks on behalf of the child’s safety and well-being in court while also visiting the child in their foster home.

CASA currently has 24 advocates representing 68 children but Program Director, Evelyn Cookley, hopes to reach a goal of 100 advocates or at least one per child by December 31st.

Cookley says CASA Day is a special way to let those who volunteer their time know that they're appreciated.

To get involved and represent a foster child, call 229-435-0074 and ask for CASA.
