The pushup is a great exercise for midline stabilization and building core muscles but you have to make sure you are doing it correctly.

Proper push up performance

Pushups are body weight movements meaning there’s no outside weight being applied.  Make sure your body is in proper alignment to do pushups correctly.

“They lose that midline stabilization; they lose that tightness of their core so to speak thus having the body either bow downward or to have their rear end stuck up so it's kind of getting them out of alignment,” said Kris Morrill, fitness coach.

Proper form ensures you are working the correct muscle groups and not causing injury.
