NEWTON,GA --
Thanks to one South Georgia farmer, a volunteer fire department is getting some much needed support.

The Patmos Volunteer Fire Department in Newton, Georgia just received a check for $2,500.

The money was available through the America's Farmer's Grow Communities, which gives farmers the opportunity to win and then direct money towards their non-profit of choice.

The winner, Chad Mathis, a farmer from Baker County is a former volunteer.

Fire officials say the money will be used to buy new equipment such as fire suits and hand tools.
