Second inmate death in a week

On the heels of an inmate death in the Lowndes County jail, the Sumter County jail is dealing with a similar situation.

Around 11:00 a.m. Monday, jail officials found a female inmate unresponsive.

She was taken to Phoebe Sumter Regional Hospital in Americus.

They are waiting for next of kin to be notified before releasing the inmate's name.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into the matter.
