ALBANY, GA. -- Southwest Georgia Regional Airport patrons will now risk a ticket when dropping someone off to the airport.

The airport is ending unattended and attended parking on Terminal Drive due to construction efforts.

Anyone caught parking in front of the terminal will face a $35 ticket.

Visitors are allowed to park in the airport's parking lot for free for the first 30 minutes.

The director for the airport says moving patrons to the parking area may be a permanent solution to security issues.

“You could have a suicide bomber right in front of the terminal and because they are attended, they would be able to sit there. So we're trying to get people to get off the curb and even though we're a small town airport we need to go ahead and move into the parking area,” says Yvette Aehle, Director of the Southwest Georgia Regional Airport.

Disabled citizens will still be allowed to unload and load in front of the terminal as long as they are not sitting for a period of time.
