ALBANY, GA --
Crime may be down in unincorporated parts of Dougherty County, according to Police Chief Don Cheek, copper thefts are a constant crime.

Agents with the county say they see cases of copper thefts on a regular basis.

But it's not as easy finding the culprits.

“It's hard to track down because most copper doesn't have serial numbers. We do check the recycling shops on a regular basis to see who's bringing in a lot of copper at one time,” says SGT. Chad Kilpatrick.

Kilpatrick says they are more likely to make an arrest if a tip comes in from a neighborhood watch group.
