Albany 9-1-1 says they can trace phone numbers and locations of prank callers dialing the emergency line

In our Facebook Story of the Day, viewers wanted to know how the 9-1-1 center handles prank calls.
Albany 9-1-1 says they take prank calls to their center very seriously because they block the way for real emergency calls.
They say prank calling 9-1-1 is a class one misdemeanor. Callers face up to one year in jail and up to $2,500 in fines. Albany 9-1-1 says they can trace phone numbers and locations to track down prank callers.
"We can trace these phone calls, we have had people that have made prank phone calls and we have traced and certainly have proven ourselves that we have the capability to do that," says Charlotte Floyd, Albany 9-1-1 Communications Manager.
Albany 9-1-1 and emergency management reaches out to the schools to let kids know that 911 is for emergencies only.
They say they also receive phone calls at the 9-1-1 center for people asking for directions or other phone numbers; they say they even get intoxicated people calling them. Albany 9-1-1 says people with non-emergency calls looking for information need to call the 3-1-1 number.
