The Lowndes County Sheriff's Office and GBI are investigating after they say a small homemade explosive device killed an 18-year-old
LOWNDES COUNTY, GA --
Investigators are looking into the death of a teenager after they say a homemade explosive device killed him.
The Lowndes County Sheriff's Office says they responded to a Tiger Creek Road residence where a mother said her son, William Thomas Lane, 18, woke her up to tell her he "was cut." They say Lane was transported to South Georgia Medical Center where he died from his injuries.
Investigators with the Sheriff’s Office and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation responded to the scene and to South Georgia Medical Center. Evidence is being collected from both the scene and from the victim.
They say preliminary results of the investigation indicate that the victim was injured by a small homemade explosive device and was killed as a result. The body is being transported to the GBI Crime Lab for autopsy.
The investigation remains ongoing.
