ALBANY, GA --
The city of Albany will be shelling out big bucks to make sure chemicals from a radiator shop don't contaminate our groundwater.
In 1999, the site of an old radiator shop was given to the city.
Commissioners thought it would be good for the revitalization of downtown.
However, since then, the city has spent nearly a million dollars installing test wells, removing contaminated soil and sending soil samples to the environmental protection agency.
Now the EPA is asking for more, which will cost another $200,000.
"There are different levels of contamination. The test wells will see whether the contamination is leaking deeper," says Commissioner Bob Langstaff.
City officials will officially vote at their night meeting later this month.
