ALBANY, GA --
He's waited for years, but Monday, a medic with the Army National Guard finally received a medal for heroic acts he performed while in Iraq in 2006.

Congressman Sanford Bishop awarded Braswell with the Bronze Star with Valor.

Specialist Wesley Braswell saved the lives of three men after their vehicle hit an improvised explosive device, or IED during a convoy to northern Iraq.

He braved running through enemy fire to get to the men.

Braswell also received the Combat Medic Badge.

“I was really nervous when it happened. I prayed before it happened, I prayed after the fact it happened, I still pray every day because that's what's getting me through,” says Braswell.

He says he still gets emails from the families of the men thanking him for his bravery.
