Local election officials certify the presidential primary results from Super Tuesday

ALBANY, GA -- The Board of Elections held a meeting Friday evening finalizing the presidential primary numbers for Dougherty County.

The certified numbers show Republican Presidential Candidate Newt Gingrich won the county with nearly 45 percent of the vote. He was followed by Mitt Romney with nearly 29 percent, Rick Santorum with 20 percent and Ron Paul with five percent.

Some republican presidential candidates who have previously dropped out received votes as well. Michele Bachmann received 0.15 percent, John Huntsman received 0.17 percent, Rick Perry received 0.13 percent and Gary Johnson received 0.04 percent.

Just over 14 percent of Dougherty County voters turned out for the primaries.

Approximately 28 percent of ballots cast were for President Barack Obama.
