ALBANY, GA --
Are the dead still voting?

It's a question that's been raised recently after a report from the Pew Center says 1.8 million dead people are currently registered to vote.

So what's to keep a person from voting under a deceased person's name?

The Georgia Secretary of State's office is in charge of checking a database for death certificates.

“The database searches the vital records database and any voters that are in there would be removed via the secretary of state,” says Ginger Nickerson, Director of the Elections Office in Dougherty County.

City Attorney Nathan Davis says it's considered a felony to vote under a deceased person's name, punishable by a year and a day in jail.
