Tuesday afternoon, FOX 31 News received a memo from the Dougherty County School System’s legal team. This memo outlines how the system and District Attorney Greg Edwards plan to handle evidence regarding the CRCT investigation they are awaiting from the state. Authorities say that evidence is expected soon, possibly this week.

Initial Story
There are new changes in the prosecution for both the Dougherty County CRCT scandal and the school lunch fraud cases.

Dougherty County District Attorney Greg Edwards is recusing himself from the school lunch fraud prosecution and deferring all cases to Southwest Circuit District Attorney Joe Mulholland.

Mulholland has agreed to take on the cases.

Edwards says since he’s had previous interaction with some of the people accused of school lunch fraud, he's removing himself to eliminate the possibility of personal bias and to keep uniformity within the cases.

He's has also decided to assign a special prosecutor from within the Dougherty County D.A.’s office to the CRCT investigation.

“By virtually what we call a legal firewall, I can insulate myself from certain aspects of the case and allow the prosecutor within this office to work on all the cases and carry out all the necessary work within this office,” said Dougherty County District Attorney Greg Edwards.

He says he wants to make it clear that he is not recusing himself from the CRCT case, but rather allowing someone without connection or bias to handle the cases.
