ALBANY, GA -- The president of Albany’s NAACP spoke to AmeriCorps cadets Monday in honor of Martin Luther King Day.
Dr. David Williams told cadets that higher education for the African American community was now the dream.
“The struggle is no longer here, but there is a different struggle that we are going to be faced with and that is the struggle of economics,” says Dr. Williams.
Cadets realized also that Monday was not a holiday, but a great opportunity for service to their community.
“So it gives us a chance to come together with the community and makes us closer,” says Cadet Brian Bell of his fellow cadets.
After listening to Dr. Williams, cadets walked around Lincoln Elementary Magnet School picking up litter along the way.
After that, they took a silent march down South Madison Street holding signs reminding people that Dr. King's dream lives on and encouraging others to live their own dreams.
