ALBANY, GA -- Albany police arrested David Lee Brown, 53, after he led officers on a foot chase through downtown Albany.

Brown entered the Family Dollar on Oglethorpe Blvd and fled the scene with 14 bars of soap.

He didn’t get far before being spotted by cops.

Once he realized they were on his trail, he took off running over the Oglethorpe bridge.

The foot chase ended in the Civic Center's parking lot.

An officer attempted to apprehend the suspect but he began to fight against arrest.

“Other officers came to assist because the suspect was struggling with the responding officer.  They did respond to the scene and have to tase him,” said Albany Police Department Public Information Officer Phyllis Banks.

That final measure subdued the suspect.

He was transported to Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital for a shoulder injury and turned over to authorities.

David Brown was questioned and taken into custody.
