ALBANY, GA. -- This year taxpayers have an extra two days to complete their tax returns.

Tax day usually falls on the 15th of April but the Internal Revenue Service has announced that they are pushing back the filing deadline until Tuesday, April 17th.

April 15th falls on a Sunday and the following day is a holiday which celebrates the freeing of slaves.

“April 16th is Emancipation Day for the District of Columbia. So they have two extra days to file their tax returns this year,” said Garland, Williams and Associates Certified Public Accountant Bill Williams.

Last year’s tax deadline was also pushed back because of Emancipation Day.
