Immigration law takes shape in 2012.

ALBANY, GA. -- A law that some consider controversial has now taken shape in 2012.
Under the Illegal Immigration Reform and Enforcement Act private companies with 500 employees or more are required to use the federal E-Verify system.
The database is set up as a means for employers to confirm whether or not a new hire is legal and able to work in the United States.
The reform resembles Alabama's immigration law.
While some feel the law is unjust, some southwest Georgia locals feel that new law is fair.
“If you don't have anything to hide then you shouldn't have problem doing a background check on your job. I wouldn't mind if anyone had to do a background check on me for verification for employment,” said Albany resident LaKeshia Elder.
A portion of the law went into effect last year as companies with 100 to 500 employees were required to start using the system in July.
Businesses with 99 workers or less will start using the E-Verify system in 2013.
