ALBANY, GA -- Your midsection is the center of all movement
"If you've ever hurt your back or you've ever hurt an area in your midsection, everything hurts,” said Kris Morrill, fitness coach. “You can move your arm and it would hurt that area because everything begins right there in your midsection."
Keep your feet together and knees up to protect your hip flexors. Use a rolled up towel, pillow or ab mat to get rid of the space between your low back and the floor. It will support your back and keep you in proper alignment. Then just sit all the way up and all the way back for a full range of motion.
There are two types of muscles in your core. Movement muscles are the ones you typically see and are in charge of bending and sitting up. Stability muscles keep your midsection steady.
"You can still have abs- very defined movement muscles but your belly can still be big because those stabilization movement muscles aren't as strong as they need to be,” sail Morrill.
No matter how many crunches you do, if you’re not eating properly, you’ll never get a six pack.
