Marines at the Marine Corps Logistics Base like to spend time with their families around the holidays, however due to the nature of their job not everyone can take days off.
Sergeant Major Conrad Potts says everyone on base gets 30 days of leave a year in order to relax and rejuvenate from the stresses of living a military life. “We put a lot of pressure on ourselves internally and therefore we have to have that time to get away. You can’t run an engine 100 mph every day or its going to blow. It’s the same thing with us – we need time away, especially this time of year to be with our families” says Potts.
While some marines are single and wanting to visit family, others are geo-bachelors, meaning a marine who is married, but geographically separated from his or her family. Since not all marines are allowed to
travel for the holidays many family members come to the base to spend time with their loved one during the holiday season.
The Marine Corps Logistics Base also has a special holiday wish for Southwest Georgia. “I would truly like to thank the community for all their support that they give us on a daily basis. And I’d like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a very blessed and happy new year” says Potts.
