ALBANY, GA -- In our Facebook Story of the Day, you wanted to know how to spot out reputable charities.

Law enforcement says many scam artists come out during the holidays season looking take advantage of the giving spirit. They say the best way to spot a scam is to do a little research.

“The best thing to do is to never send direct to them without checking with the Better Business Bureau. The Better Business Bureau and the Federal Trade Commission both keep strong track of these,” said Capt. Craig Dodd of the Dougherty County Sheriff’s Department.

Officers say many scammers specifically target the elderly, some business and church going people.
