ALBANY, GA -- In our Facebook story of the day, you wanted to know how property taxes are calculated.

It's on several people's minds, since property taxes are due on or before December 20th.

“Essentially, all you do is take the fair market value of your property, times 40 percent, which is the assessed value, multiply that by the millage rate and that is your answer,” says Denver Hooten, tax director for Dougherty County.

Your millage rate, if you live in the city is 39.249, and 37.861 if you live in the unincorporated area.
