ALBANY, GA -- In our Facebook Story of the Day viewers wanted to know if felons in Georgia can get their gun rights back.

According to Captain Craig Dodd with the Dougherty County Sheriff's Office, it is possible.

Dodd says felons have the option of filling out and submitting an application to the State Board of Parole and Probation to get their gun license back. He says they have to wait at least five years after fulfilling their sentence and fines before doing so.

"I would say it doesn't happen that often. lots of people apply but the one that is most stringently checked out is the right to bear firearms," says Dodd.

Dodd also says whether a felon gets their gun rights back or not depends on the crime they committed as well.
