ALBANY, GA -- City commissioner Jon Howard is requesting the city consider refunding qualifying fees to Cheryl Calhoun, the candidate for ward two who was recently disqualified.

It was discovered that the elections office erroneously told Calhoun she lived in ward two when she actually resides in ward one.

State statute doesn't allow for refunds after qualifying ends, but city attorney Nathan Davis wrote a request to the state for the refund of the $450 filing fee.

“And it's a fair thing to do that we refund her her qualifying fee because it was not her mistake, it was the board of elections mistake and to be good stewards of the city I think that it's a proper thing to do,” says city commissioner Jon Howard.

The city will address it at their next work session November 15th.

If approved, Calhoun could see her money refunded within the next five business days.
