Original Story

The Albany Police Department confirms a female police officer died as a result of her injuries from a crash Friday afternoon. Police say they are not releasing the officer's name at this time.

Another officer suffered less serious injuries from the crash after a high speed chase. His name is not being released by the police department at this time either.

FOX 31 News was first on the scene where the chase ended and Albany Police Department vehicles crashed and caught fire as they were chasing a robbery suspect. The officers are on the way to the hospital, one with serious injuries.

The incident originated after a robbery at Consolidated Loan. Police say a black male went into Consolidated Loan and asked for a loan. They say he left and returned with another black male; both obtained money from the drawer and fled the scene.

APD sent suspect info and car description to other officers.

A police officer stationed in downtown Albany saw the suspects in their car and began pursuit.

The two officers later crashed their vehicles on East Residence Avenue near the 500 block of Blaylock Street. The suspects crashed their car soon after on Turner Field Road.

Police are currently questioning the two suspects.
