ALBANY, GA. -- After school programs across the country are being recognized for their impact on the lives of children.
The "Lights on Afterschool" program has been around for 12 years and this is the first time that Dougherty County has participated.
The Mount Olive Community Outreach Center held a 'fun day' at Jordan’s Crossing baseball park on Thursday to show the program's success.
Organizers say the goal of the event is to get the attention of state and national figures in order to maintain program funding.
“We want to show our senators, our congressman., our representatives and our local commissioners that we need the funding to keep these after school programs going because so many kids lives are changed by having a safe place to come after school every day,” said Mt. Olive After School Program Director Clinton Johnson.
He says the 'fun day' was a way to shed light on after school programs in the southwest Georgia area.
