ALBANY, GA. -- To make it faster, easier and more convenient to get vaccinated against seasonal influenza, the Dougherty County Health Department is now offering flu shots in each of its four clinics rather than only in its General Clinic.
“Our goal was to make it easier for individuals to get the vaccine by providing more nurses and sites offering it,” explained Dougherty County Health Department Manager Vamella Lovett.
Flu shots are now available at the General Clinic, the Adult Health Clinic, the Women’s Health Clinic and the Child Health Clinic, she said.
Flu vaccine is $25 per dose. The health department accepts cash, checks, Medicaid, Medicare and State Health Benefit plans, United Healthcare and Cigna.
“The National Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend an annual flu vaccine for everyone 6 months and older as the first and best way to protect against influenza,” Lovett said. The flu shots (injected vaccines) do not contain live viruses.”
Nasal spray vaccine, which is also available at the health department, is made with live, weakened flu viruses and is approved for healthy people 2 through 49 who are not pregnant.
