ALBANY, GA. -- Gas price highs and lows have people around southwest Georgia talking and in Wednesday's Facebook story of the day FOX 31 fans want to know why gas prices fluctuate throughout the day?

Gas station owners say since the price of a barrel of crude oil changes from day to day they have to keep up with the market.

They say when prices change throughout the day most of the time it's because of competition among vendors.

“People who have more than one store that they franchise are the ones who change the prices and we go by that. If they go down we have to compete with the price and if they go up we have to go up because of their price,” said BP Food Mart Owner Nainesh Patel.

He says companies that have their own refineries set the price range for most gas station owners.
