ALBANY, GA -- $2500 dollars is going to the First Tee of Albany to help teach kids the game of golf.

The check was donated Thursday by members of the Albany Rotary Club.

Officials at First Tee say the money is going to be used for a scholarship grant to teach about 60 girls from Girls Incorporated.

“In the state of Georgia last year, there were 400 golf scholarships for girls unapplied for. So we want to help those girls get into a position to where perhaps they can go to college, provided they have the academics, on a golf scholarship and take one of those 400 which would be a much better life for all of them,” said Burkette Carver of the First Tee of Albany.

There are more than 250 chapters of first tee across the country. The Albany chapter was founded six years ago.
