ALBANY, GA -- Medical officials say they are facing a critical shortage of several pharmaceutical drugs.

Wednesday morning the hospital board at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital got an update on their supply from the director of pharmaceuticals.

Right now the hospital has not seen a major impact from the shortage, but they are concerned about levels of chemotherapy medication for cancer patients.

“What we are trying to do is work with our oncology group, and they have been very cooperative in ensuring that if a patient needs the medication that we assure that we have the full complement of care,” said Pharmaceuticals Director Paul Pfeiffer.

The FDA says right there is a shortage of 200 different pharmaceutical drugs. That's up from 178 at the end of last year.
