Investigators say they are charging an 18-year-old in connection with the shooting death of a 14-year-old boy on Mercedes Drive

ALBANY, GA -- Updated at 9:54 p.m.

Investigators say they have charged Taiun Davis, 18,  with murder in the case of the fatal shooting of James Anderson, 14. They say other charges are pending.

The Albany Police Department has Taiun Davis, 18,  in custody for the early morning shooting death of James Anderson, 14, on Mercedes Street. Police say as they were serving a search warrant at 501 A Bobbitt Drive, Davis and his mother pulled up in a car; that's when they took him into custody.

Authorities say Davis is believed to have been at the house last night and this morning for a sleepover, along with a number of other juvenilles. Davis is said to be a friend of the victim.

According to investigators, the 14 year old was bleeding from the head but with no apparent wound to the front of the head; they believe the gunshot wound was to the back of head.

The aunt Anderson says he was home from school because he had been expelled.

Neighbors crowded the streets during the afternoon saying they want to show their support for the family. Neighbors say Anderson was loved and will be missed.

Citizens with more information are encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at (229) 436-TIPS or the Albany Police Department at (229) 431-2100.
