ALBANY, GA -- Updated Sept. 29 at 10:00 p.m.
With the help of local law enforcement, the U.S. Attorney's Office made 13 additional arrests in connection with an August drug bust that involved the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany.
According to the MCLB, no current employees were involved in this indictment.
“There was one individual who was a former base worker and one individual who was working on another base,” says U.S. Attorney Michael Moore.
The 13 people arrested are charged with for Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Distribute Controlled Substances. Those controlled substances included hydrocodone – such as Vicodin and Loretab – 280 grams of crack cocaine and marijuana.
“There will be a minimum of ten years up to life in prison, possible fine of $4 million per defendant,” says Moore.
U.S. Attorney Michael Moore says they received great cooperation from the Marine Corps base in Albany and they assisted with each request.
“We've been great partners as we've gone to pluck the bad apples out of the barrel. Nobody's worried about turf, nobody's talking about this is my county this is my base; we're working together,” says Moore.
The team work will help with future investigations, according to authorities.
“It allowed our agencies to come together to develop strategies that were used in this case and will be used in future investigations,” says GBI Special Agent in Charge Kim Baker.
Baker says the most important benefit in this case is making a positive impact on the community by removing drugs and dealers. Moore says there's another group of people who deserve a community free of drugs.
“I think that the men and women who serve our country deserve great accolades and deserve to know that the people who may be working n their equipment are doing so without any influence,” says Moore.
Moore says this case continues to be under investigation and more arrests are possible.

Moore is holding a press conference at 2:00 p.m. regarding the September 14, 2011 filing of a one count indictment against Justin Mathis, Travis, Davis, James Williford, Tomecca Stubbs, Bertrond Hall, Demario Covin, Casey Stamps, Geter Antwon Brown, Brandon Kierce, Demetrius Davenport, Antonia Bernard Chevers, Eric Dellinger and James Ellis for Conspiracy to Possess with Intent to Distribute Controlled Substances. According to authorities, all are in violation of Title 21 United States Code.
The indictment alleges that the defendants conspired to possess with intent to distribute Schedule III controlled substances, including hydrocodone, Vicodin, Loretab, Lorcel; Scheduled II controlled substance, including cocaine and crack cocaine in an amount over 280 grams; a Schedule I controlled substance, marijuana.
The case was investigated by Naval Criminal Investigative Service, Drug Enforcement Administration, Georgia Bureau of Investigation, Albany Dougherty Drug Unit, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Dougherty County District Attorney’s Office, Marine Corps Criminal Investigation Division and Police, and the Command Staff of the Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Tamara Jarrett.
