ALBANY, GA -- The new health department manager in Dougherty County was at the county's Monday meeting to remind everyone about the importance of the flu shot.

Vamella Lovett says getting your flu shot now is extremely important since winter is just around the corner.

It's especially imperative for the little ones.

“And it's been proven that in school systems even where they give large percentage of the students vaccines, that they have fewer children that come down with the flu,” says Lovett.

And Suzette Profit with the health department was recently awarded the Walt Orenstein Champions for Immunization award after being nominated anonymously by her peers.
