ALBANY, GA -- After making approximately 57 arrests in a Racketeer Influence and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) round-up, the Albany Police Department’s Gang Unit is asking for the public’s help in locating the last man on their list.

Currently out of leads, police are urging anyone who has seen alleged gang member Alvin Cross, 21, to call Albany Crime Stoppers at (229) 436 TIPS (8477) or the Albany Police Department at (229) 431-2100.

Albany Crime Stoppers says any and all tips will be anonymous. Citizens are not asked questions or required to give their name; Albany Crime Stoppers assigns tipsters with an ID number.

“That's how we're going to identify you. We don't want to know anything about you, who you are, we don’t even know where you're calling from,” says Jason Thornhill of Albany Crime Stoppers. “The ID number you can use on multiple times that you call in if you have additional information after you've been issued that ID number.”

At Thursday’s Albany Crime Stoppers meeting, the organization approved rewards for tipsters that helped lead police to arrests in the incident where a police officer’s window was shot out (a gang-related incident) as well as an arrest in the RICO round-up.

“The law enforcement officials can use that to make their arrests so it is important that the community use this tool,” says Thornhill.

Dougherty County District Attorney Greg Edwards discussed gang structure at Thursday’s Gang Task Force meeting, and how the recent gang round-up by local law enforcement collected a few of them.

“We feel it's important in terms of the impact on the community that we got gang leaders indicted and recruiters,” says Edwards.

Edwards says there are approximately 600 gang members in Dougherty County. He says finding these members, including Cross, is “a community effort.”

Police were looking for Atrarius Davis in connection with the gang round-up but he turned himself into the Dougherty County Jail on Sept. 7.
