ALBANY, GA -- The Southwest Georgia Alzheimer’s Association went to downtown today asking people to take action. Wednesday was actually Alzheimer’s Action Day, but they're asking people register for the upcoming Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
The walk is on October 15 in downtown Albany.
By the year 2050, the stats say one in four people over the age of 65 will develop Alzheimer’s disease, so we feel like it's our time. It's time for people to realize that Alzheimer’s is a disease; it's not about somebody being crazy or not being as smart as someone else. It's really a disease and we need to find out what’s causing it and we need to get a cure for it,” said Dave Phillips, Director of the Southwest Georgia Alzheimer’s Association
Last year the walk raised nearly $90,000 for Alzheimer’s research. This year they're aiming for $125,000.
