Local EMA officials say it is very rare for Albany to get earthquakes
ALBANY, GA -- In our Facebook Story of the Day, you wanted to know what precautions to take in the event of an earthquake.
“If the building starts to shake, get out of it,” says Jim Vaught with the Albany-Dougherty Emergency Management Agency. He also says if you are trapped in a building during an earthquake to get under a sturdy table or an interior room.
As FOX 31 reported earlier this week, experts say to not panic because earthquakes in Southwest Georgia are very rare and remote.
“If it happens within our seismic area it's very possible, as a finger coming out of it, we would feel the tremors as an aftereffect, but it's a rare occurrence that it would happen in Southwest Georgia,” says Vaught.
He says Southwest Georgia tends to see more severe weather, floods and hurricanes than earthquakes.
