Albany Mayor Willie Adams says receiving the ASU Community Service Award leaves him speechless

ALBANY, GA -- Albany State University held its Second Annual Community Service Award Banquet paying tribute to Albany Mayor Willie Adams.

Speakers at the banquet honored the public service and leadership Adams has given to the city.

Commissioner Jeff Sinyard presented the 71-year-old mayor and fried fish lover with a gift 71 ounces of filleted tilapia and 71 ounces of fresh mullet.

Adams says the Community Service Award is one of the few moments that left him speechless.

“I thought at one time maybe they had run out of candidates but I later learned that I’m the second one. so I’m just honored to be in line for it,” says Adams of his accolade.

Adams says he encourages those who serve the community and may not receive awards to keep doing the great work they do; he says they will know in their hearts what their service truly means to the people.

The Community Service Banquet is also a fundraiser for ASU student scholarships.

The event was the first to be held in the new ASU Student Center.
