Updated with video; St. Teresa's Catholic Church holds a Red Cross Blood Drive for parishioners and community members to help donate
ALBANY, GA -- In our Good News of the Day, St. Teresa’s Catholic Church is a place for worship, but on Wednesday it became a blood donor center for a day.
Parishioners and community members stopped by to take a few minutes to donate blood. The Red Cross in Albany is in a blood shortage, but local Red Cross officials say the extremity of it is lowered thanks to the help of donors such as those who attended St. Teresa’s Blood Drive.
"We have actually lifted our appeal right now, our numbers are going back up but we always have a need for blood and we're coming up on the labor day weekend holiday and things of that nature so we always have a need for blood," says Shea Weathersby, Blood Donor Recruiter with the Red Cross.
The goal of Wednesday's blood drive was to collect 35 units of blood, and as of two hours into the blood drive, volunteers say they were well on their way to reaching that goal. Weathersby says each unit of blood can save three lives.
