ALBANY, GA -- The audience gave a round of applause and standing ovation to a band not solely for the music they played, but because the performers have served the country.

The award-winning Albany Marine Corps Band performed a free show for the community at the Byne Memorial Baptist Church on Wednesday.

Selections played by the band during their “Here We Stand” program included patriot songs such as The Washington Post March and Song of the Marines, as well as movie themes from motion pictures such at Pirates of the Caribbean and Star Trek.

The band says throughout history, Americans have been able to count on the U.S. Marine Corps, which inspired the premise for their performance title.

The band is the U.S. Marine Corps’ 2010 Band of the Year.
