ALBANY, GA -- The City Commission is waiting to vote on a cat ordinance that would require all domesticated cats to be identified.

The commission is waiting to hear back from staff on an exact cost of a pilot program.

Initially, a citizen's advisory committee thought there would be no additional cost for a program that would involve trapping, neutering and releasing feral cats.

“When it was brought last time, the question was asked, are you going to require revenue? And they said no because I think they thought that the money that was saved by the human society not doing euthanizations would come back to this group, and that's not the case,” said City Manager James Taylor.

The issue has been tabled until staff is ready to report back with an amount.
