The Dougherty County Public Library offers a service providing students with online tutors
DOUGHERTY COUNTY, GA -- If you are a grade school, college or adult student and struggling with a particular subject, the Dougherty County Public Library is offering a free service to help with tutoring.
The library is subscribed to a tutoring website – Tutor.com -- that connects students to one-on-one help from tutors. Available from 3 p.m. until 10 p.m., the tutors help on subjects including science, math, history and language arts.
Students can even download homework papers to the tutors.
“We have a lot of college students who are using it for math especially. Math seems to be the most popular. But we've had a lot of positive feedback, a lot of people eager to tell their friends about it,” says Ashley Moore, Assistant Director at the Dougherty County Public Library.
Students wanting to use Tutor.com do need a Dougherty County library card to access the site through the library’s website.
Moore says the tutors are not there to give answers but to give guidance; have a sample problem ready for a tutor to help with and then complete the rest on your own.
The website also helps with preparing college and job applications. It offers resources such as videos, worksheets and practice tests for math, history, science and English as well.
Tutor.com is available not only on a computer but also on iPhones and iPads.
Moore says the site accommodates English and Spanish speaking students.
