Updated with video; Every Marine is a trained rifleman, but not every job is the same
ALBANY, GA -- The MCLB’s Logcom Career Planning Office processes Marines out, helps some re-enlist, helps others with lateral moves, and those trying to move up the ranks.
The office is a huge resource to Marines because Master Sergeant Jason Spangenberg says not everyone is the guy crawling on the ground and going under the barb wire. “We’re all trained rifleman that is our primary job at the end of the day. If they do 20 years in the Marine Corp or 30 years in the Marine Corp I’m going to try to ladder move that marine to something that is going to help them in their career, but most importantly, it has to be something the marine wants” says Spangenberg.
The office does a variety of things including matching the Marine Corps needs to the Marine, which can be a fun, exploratory process. “If you take a Marine that wants to get out or is on the fence about thinking on getting out and through conversation you start to discover the Marine didn't really want to get out, they just wanted a different job. When you’re able to match them up with something they’re interested in that suits their abilities, interests, and it matches the Marine Corps’ needs – that’s a huge win for everyone” says Spangenberg.
