Updated with video; The Southwest Georgia Cancer Coalition launches a campaign to raise money for local cancer research and screening
ALBANY, GA -- Every hour, two people in Georgia die from cancer, according to the Southwest Georgia Cancer Coalition.
To bring this into perspective, the organization launched its “Cancer Doesn’t Break for Lunch” campaign, selling insulated lunch boxes for $10 that are stuffed with $30 worth of coupons donated by local businesses including Chick-fil-a, Moe’s, Blackbeard’s, Chilis, Carino’s Italian and Sonic.
During the time people take during lunch to purchase the lunch box, volunteers say they can help cancer patients in Southwest Georgia and help raise money for local cancer education, research, screening and outreach.
"With the Coalition, we are saving lives in our own backyards. Our neighbors are helping each other and you don't have to worry about your money going away to a national organization or going to treat people in other states. It’s staying right here in our community," says Amanda Williams, Development Coordinator for the Coalition.
To purchase a lunch box, visit the Southwest Georgia Cancer Coalition office at 2332 Lake Park Drive in Albany. You can also call them at (229) 312-1700 for more information.
