ALBANY, GA. -- Lee County commissioners called a special meeting on Thursday to establish the 2011-2012 tax levy.

Officials said this is the fifth year in a row that they have not had to raise property taxes. This is in spite of dealing with about five hundred thousand dollars less money than in previous years.

They said without the money they still have been able to thrive as a community.

“We have built a brand new EMS Fire Station in Smithville. We've given the Sheriff's Department a $1.5 million increase in the last three years and thank god we haven't had to raise taxes,” said Lee County Commission Chair Ed Duffy.

The chairman said the mileage rate for Lee County will remain the same.
