418 layoffs in Southwest Georgia since start of year
ALBANY, GA. -- A surge of layoffs in July has left more than 60,000 employees with jobs, according to a report from Challenger, Gray and Christmas Inc.
“I think it has to do with the non-contract public school employees being laid off during the summer, but some of them have probably have already gone back with the school system starting back, and will be returning to work within the next couple of weeks,” said Lynne Jones of the Department of Labor.
There have been 418 layoffs in Southwest Georgia this year, but there have likely been more since the labor department only records layoffs that are reported to them.
