ALBANY, GA -- For our Facebook Story of the Day, you wanted to know what is the social media policy of school districts in Southwest Georgia?

That question comes on the heels of a new law in Missouri, which bans teachers from friending their students on social networking web sites like Facebook.

Georgia doesn't have a law specifically dealing with social networking but it falls under their code of ethics.

“Teachers in the state of Georgia has a code of ethics that is administered and prescribed by the Georgia professional standards association. And that describes particular behaviors that are allowed and not allowed for teachers, in public, at home and in school,” said R.D. Harter of the Dougherty County School System.

Administrators at both the Dougherty County school system and in Lee County say they recognize that sites like Facebook can be an effective teaching tool.
